Heart Of Gold

Hovercrafts And Laserbeams

One of the two fans who contributed the very first fan audio commentary ever posted to Big Damn Commentaries, thereby officially inagurating and launching this site, returns with a solo effort.

Description:

In the absence of a commentating buddy, I decided to test the waters with a solo effort. Heart Of Gold seemed like a good choice since there are no existing commentaries on it. Plus, it's not a favourite of mine so if I botched the job I wouldn't be too disappointed...

The track was recorded through Goldwave with a cheap Game brand microphone. The episode was played using RealPlayer. Unfortunately, despite my best efforts, a muffled version of the episode's audio was picked up during recording. I thought I'd protected against this, but hopefully I'll work out what I did wrong before my next effort.

Note: You will be prompted to start the episode with a countdown during the commentary's introduction.

Headphones, people, headphones. ;)

I did actually use headphones. It seems my attempt to isolate the sound card's recording source as mic only, wasn't quite successful :(

Solid solo effort. If you're still looking for a way to record a commentary with your brother, even though he's living elsewhere, you may want to try putting him on speakerphone. If set up just right, I think it could work.

Personally, I don't mind the fact that I can slightly hear the episode in the background. Just about every professional commentary I've ever listened to does this. Plus, it helps for better synchronization.

I'm glad you made the Bordello/Initiative design comparison. Funny observation. My guess, it's probably solar paneling.

Great job, Grounded; it was a good listen. Can't wait for your next one.

Cheers guys :)

Yeah, my intention for the 2-person online commentary was to use MSN or any number of other voice comm software so that we could hear each other. I just wasn't so sure if the two separate audio files would sync up easily. I dunno, maybe it's not that big an issue - I mean in The Spoilers movie commentary they mention that they've drifted out of sync and it doesn't really much bearing.
